Introduction
Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage to Mecca that can be performed at any time of the year. While it is not obligatory like Hajj, it holds great spiritual significance in Islam.
Step 1: Enter the State of Ihram
Before crossing the Miqat (the designated boundary), make your intention (niyyah) for Umrah and put on the Ihram garments — two white unstitched cloths for men, and modest clothing for women. Recite the Talbiyah: Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk...
Step 2: Perform Tawaf
Upon arriving at Masjid al-Haram, perform Tawaf by circling the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction, starting and ending at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad).
Step 3: Pray Two Rak'ahs at Maqam Ibrahim
After completing Tawaf, offer two rak'ahs of prayer near Maqam Ibrahim if possible.
Step 4: Perform Sa'i
Walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa, beginning at Safa and ending at Marwa, in remembrance of Hajar's search for water.
Step 5: Shave or Trim Hair (Halq or Taqsir)
Men should shave their heads (Halq) or trim their hair (Taqsir). Women trim a small portion of their hair. This marks the completion of Umrah and the exit from the state of Ihram.
Conclusion
With these steps completed, your Umrah is done. May Allah accept your pilgrimage and grant you its full reward.
